Can you read clearly and with expression? Do you have a good microphone voice? Can you interpret the printed page for an audience of visually impaired listeners, describing pictures to help bring the news alive?
If so, you would make a good reader for us!
Our readers aim to arrive by 9:15, on their allocated Friday, at the Aylsham recording studio. They are provided with a copy of the script and a collection of numbered newspaper clippings. Working in teams of up to four readers, everyone takes turns. A typical edition of The Mardler lasts about eighty minutes so each volunteer reads for about twenty minutes in total. Of course we take breaks to allow the Sound Engineer to tidy up each section and we are often finished by around 11:30.
You will find our recording teams are friendly and, of course, full training is given.
The recording studio is up one flight of stairs.
