Our blind and visually impaired listeners look forward to receiving their weekly copy of The Mardler – Talking Newspaper. Drawing on news items from the North Norfolk News, this audio production is delivered directly to listener’s homes by the post office under the Articles For The Blind scheme.
Our recording studio in Aylsham is equipped with four reader positions with microphones wired back to a mixing deck used to control the sound levels. Capturing the audio takes place using a Windows PC running Audacity software. It is the job of the Sound Engineer to operate this equipment to record our weekly editions and create a master copy which is then passed to the Copy and Dispatch team.
We record sections of between ten and twenty minutes of speech before pausing to allow the Sound Engineer to edit and remove any mistakes in conjunction with the Editor/Producer.
Sound Engineers are normally on duty one Friday per month between 9 AM and noon.
To fulfil this role you will need a reasonable level of PC literacy and a good understanding of sound recording. Experience of using the freely available Audacity software to compile and edit audio is desirable. Full training will be given.
The recording studio is up a flight of stairs.
